FROM THE EXECUTIVE OFFICER, TOBA
It's the start of a new year and with that has come the usual chaos of old students finding freshly painted lockers, new teachers and refurbished class rooms. Trinity also welcomed 60 new Year 4 students and 122 new Year 8 students with a total 188 Year 8's, the remainder from Year 7 Trinity Primary. I had the pleasure of assisting the Ladies Auxiliary at the introductory morning tea. It was fun explaining my role and the TOBA constitution, some people were perplexed at my attendance but I think part of the reason parents send their boys to Trinity is so they can eventually become part of the Old Boys network. Last year over 90% of fathers of year 4 students were Old Boys.
Membership has also been extended to 178 Year 12 students with the cost of this incorporated into school fees rather than chasing up membership at the end of the year.
The first TOBA event for 2006 will be held at 12.00pm - Ward Room, South Perth Yacht Club, Coffee Point Applecross on Friday 24 February. Cost is $20 per head for a light lunch with a cash bar. The guest speaker for the day is RAAF Squadron Leader James Lewis (Class of '75). Jim is now the RAAF Officer Selection Board President however has had an interesting career working with the Space program in the USA, controlling FA 18 fighter missions and working with the Surveillance and Control Training Unit in Williamtown. A kind descendant of Desmond Dease donated a copy of the ‘Manual Of English Grammar and Composition' by Nesfield. It was published in 1918 and although ink stained and moth eaten, will make a great addition to our archives. The inscription reads “Desmond Dease Christian Brothers College St Georges Terrace Perth WA 1913”. His penciled doodling on the edge of several pages is of Boxers staging a fight as you flick through it, some things never change.
It's going to be a busy year and I know the committee of TOBA is looking forward to seeing you at one of many functions. Don't forget to mark your diary. I have had emails from ex students interested in 10, 20 and 50 year reunions. If you would like assistance please contact me as soon as possible.
Cheers
Anna Gingell
