At last rugby season is almost upon us. The rugby coaches from each year and myself are all looking forward to working with your sons in the coming months. We are hoping to develop their rugby skills and pass on our passion for the game to the boys. With a positive attitude and lots of hard work, we can be successful on the field. Trinity Old Boy Will Brock (Captain 1st XV 2003) is a great example of this. Last month he represented Australia at the World Cup Sevens in Dubai. More details of Will's rugby career are featured in this newsletter.

I encourage you to support you sons in their rugby endeavours. Come along and watch your sons play. Rugby is a very exciting specatator sport and the boys love the encouragement from parents on the sideline. I would also urge you to support any functions organised by the Rugby Club; together we can build up Trinity College Rugby Club and restore it to its success of yesteryear.

APPAREL ORDER AND CONTACT DETAILS FORMS:

As in the last newsletter there two forms attached to this newsletter which need to be filled out and returned to Mr. Lewis ASAP; a Contact Details Form and an Apparel Order Form.

The Contact Details Form enables the Rugby Club to keep in touch with all its members and through our newsletter provide parents with the latest information concerning Trinity College Rugby.

In keeping with the aim of raising the prominence of rugby at Trinity College some changes have been made to the senior playing kit for 2009. The Apparel Order Form details the kit items available to be purchased as a package only from the Rugby Club directly. No items are being sold separately but the packages have been heavily subsidised by our sponsors.

It is compulsory for 1st and 2nd XV players to have this new kit for the commencement of the PSA seaon.

Guidelines on measurements are attached on the second page of the Apparel Order Form.

For Years 7 to 10 it is optional to purchase their package, which consists of a warm-up top and a kit bag for $45. All other items including playing top, shorts and socks need to be purchased from the College uniform shop as normal. It is hoped to eventually have the whole Rugby Club wearing the new gear but the present stock from the uniform shop must be sold first.

For those parents who are keen to stand on the sidelines and support their sons a supporters fleece is also available for purchase. Details are included on the Apparel Order Form.

Payment can be made for these packages by cheque, credit card or via the Trinity College Online Store. All items have been made by Canterbury, a reputable and world renowned rugby brand and so are of excellent quality and very good value for money.

RUGBY CLUB SCRATCH MATCH SATURDAY 4TH APRIL

On Saturday 4 April the entire Rugby Club is invited to watch a combination of the 1st and 2nd XVs play a scratch match against Aquinas at Waterford starting at 10.30am. There will be a complimentary sausage sizzle and soft drinks supplied by the Rugby Club. This is primarily a social event for the rugby community and an opportunity for the senior players to get to know their younger counter-parts. All members of the Rugby Club are welcome.

TRIATHLON FUNDRAISING:

As outlined in the last newsletter the Rugby Club has been given an opportunity to raise funds by providing marshalls at triathlons. We have already had a group of parents who marshalled at a triathon recently and rasied $900 for the Rugby Club. Thank you very much to those parents who attended. This has enabled the club to buy drink bottles for all teams and playing bibs for training sessions. There are two more triathlons, one on Saturday 4th April and one on Sunday 19th April.

On Saturday 4th April we require 20 volunteers for the Women's Triathlon to be held at Point Walter in Bicton. Volunteers need to arrive at 5.50am and they will be finished 9.30am. Please contact Colin Mackintosh at cjjmackintosh@bigpond.com if you are willing to help. This is a great and simple way of raising significant funds for the Rugby Club and it only involves a few hours of your time.

MOVIE AFTERNOON

Thank you to all who sold tickets and helped make the movie afternoon with the screening of Two Fists One Heart a great success. Not only did we raise funds for the club but it was a great occasion for the rugby community to get together prior to the commencement of the rugby season.

 PHOTOGRAPHERS REQUIRED

The Rugby Club is looking for a parent  to volunteer to take photos at each of the 1st and 2nd XV's games this year. This is primarily to record the season for the boys and hopefully help to retain some great memories of their rugby at Trinity. A digital camera will be provided for this purpose.

Mr. Lewis would also like a parent to video each of the 1st  XV's game to have as coaching tool for the boys. A video camera will be provided.

Could any willing parents please contact either Mr. Lewis or Darren Taggart at darren.taggart@taggart.net.au or 0438 790 590.

WILL BROCK 1ST XV CAPTAIN 2003/AUSTRALIAN 7s 2009

Will was born into a prominent  West Australian rugby family. His father was a former West Australian stalwart – playing seven consecutive years for the state.

When Will attended Trinity he was selected for the Australian Schoolboys in 2004. He also was a talented track and field star and was a state champion at javelin throwing.

When he graduated from Trinity Will began to play rugby at a more serious level and was selected to play for the Australian Under 19s. He was also a member of the Australian team who won gold at the Youth Commonwealth Games. Will was an inaugural member of the Western Force Squad and also the Perth Spirit team of 2007.

Will has recently moved to Sydney where he plays for the Eastern Suburbs. He has represented Australia in 2009 at the Dubai Sevens and is a member of the Australian team for the upcoming Adelaide Sevens both competitions as part of the IRB World Sevens Tournament. Not many West Australians make it to the elite level of international rugby so it is encouraging for Trinity rugby to see one of our own has succeeded. We wish Will every success with his future rugby endeavours.
